Sarah Grant was appointed to work as Activities Coordinator in the Teenage
Cancer Trust unit at St. James’s Hospital, Leeds, her salary funded,
for an initial three period, by the Laura Crane Trust.
Sarah, an accomplished artist herself, involves the young patients in
many and varied art activities and projects. They jazz up their
common room walls with murals, they experience other cultures through
such things as Chinese New Year and an Australian theme, they are taken,
when well enough, to dine out, go to the cinema and meet the stars in
theatres, they make music and videos, toss pancakes and SO much more.
Sarah has more than fulfilled her role and apart from being the ‘ideas’
person, she really befriends the patients and offers them support in as
many ways as she can.
The trust has also given £6,000 (including £1,000 donated
by the Ledston Ball Committee) to the ward for the purchase of recreational
and educational equipment, providing such things as Play Stations and
games, TVs, video and DVD recorders, films, musical instruments, art materials,
books, a laptop…………
